Riget / The Kingdom (Lars Von Trier, 1994)
« on: 16 Jul 2010 - 12:49 »

I've had this sat around for a while now, there are 2 seasons, i've only the first one at the moment. After seeing all the recommendations for it on Imdb and some facebook friends also saying good things about it, i'm planning to watch all the first season tonight.

At 280 mins and my friday nights entertainment at risk i thought i'd ask
Has anyone on here seen it, and if so would you recommend it??

I've watched both seasons and enjoyed it.

If you like von Trier's THE ELEMENT OF CRIME or Lynch's TWIN PEAKS (really any of Lynch's films) you should enjoy it.

Well that was brilliant!!!... its hard not to mention the end scene (fantastic last episode to a great 5part mini series) and now i have to wait 7 - 14 days to find out what happens.  :(

region 1 box, season 1 & 2 ordered straight away!!!  ;)

I watched this a while ago on the old Danish DVD and I agree it is superb beyond measure.

The solid background storyline to the characters and the hospital combines so well with the supernatural elements and I just love the way that Von Trier lures you into a false sense of security then ends each episode in such a way that you can't not watch the next part. Whenever I have watched this I end up watching an entire season in one sitting.

I think you will find season 2 equally as good.

Interestingly you mentioned five episodes, the original Danish series had four episodes but for UK/US markets it was edited into five parts, changing the order of some scenes as well as newly translating the subtitles. Fom memory I didn't notice any additional scenes in either version although the UK DVD I watched first did miss out the wonderfully eccentric title sequence:

Thankyou for that intro, it is excellent  ::) there is a documentary i haven't watched yet, it may well be included in that??

i did wonder why imdb only showed 4 episodes for season 1 yet i had 5.

i cannot wait for season 2 to arrive, although it does give me chance to rewatch season1 again first  :-\
