Two new Italian discs came through and...

...they look good. Silvano Agosti sent me his latest transfer of Nel piu alto dei cielo/The Highest of the Skies and it looks good including some extras. Also a new Italian horror has surfaced called La Radice del male, which could be about killer man-eating plants! But the trailer is dandy and also features a solid role for Zora "Cannibal Ferox" Kerova.

Jay, anymore info on these films? I've never heard of them before. When were they made?

The Agosti movie is fairly old but I did go into the movie at length in my book. I like it and is a vast improvement over the bootleg that was doing the rounds of late. It would appear not to have English subs but I am glad that Agosti made the sterling effort to have it released. As for Radice del male, I heard about this at a festival and managed to blag a screener as I am interviewing the director. I'll let you know how it goes. And Kerova still looks amazing!  :-\

You can see her on Shriek Shows 2 disc release of ANTHROPOPHAGUS being interviewed along with Montefiore. I think she looks better now than she did then!

Nice one Jay, I've not read your book  :( To be honest I've not heard of Agosti before... I really need to broaden my horizons...

Anyone know where I might be able to get a copy of The Highest of the Skies? It's intrigued me for years...

You'd better look for a transfer from the Magnum 3B VHS.
The later dvd by the director has a quite different intro with some footage of religious processions, digitally shot twenty years later in St. Peter's square (Agosti said he added these scenes in order to suggest "Church's immutability") and recurrent captions saying that the movie is not intended to offend the Church, etc. It's clear that some Church's moves affected the Italian censorship, as Agosti himself reveals during this interview, showing some reserved documents sent to the Italian embassy by Vatican main boosters
