Anyone know anything about this mini series from 1976? Just spotted it on DVD Pacific as ORIGINS OF THE MAFIA.

No, I know nothing about it apart from what I just read on imdb.

Get it bought mate, got to be worth a gamble. I would've but I've just spent my DVD allowance for November.

I'm over spent too, mate. Though I shall definitely be keeping it in my DVD Pacific wishlist.

I LOVE Italian mini-series and have been meaning to pick this one up for ages - just never gotten around to it. Maybe for Christmas, though?  :-\

Haven't been able to find too much about it but here is a nice review: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=27157

Sounds great going off that review. I think I'll buy a copy next time I'm DVD shopping.  :'(

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Paul.

I had previously thought Tony Lo Bianco only made two entries in the Italian crime genre.

This could be interesting, although the episodes takes place between 1556 - 1875...

I was watching this over the weekend and saw the final part today.

Great viewing, I can recommend this to all fellow Eurocult fans.

And what a cast, Lee J. Cobb, Mel Ferrer, Tony Musante, Tony Lo Bianco, Claudio Volonte, Katherine Ross, Trevor Howard, and narrated by Richard Johnson.

Also many familiar faces from many actors you'll recognise from Italian cinema.

Each actor is only in one episode as each one is set in a different period of time.

I wasn't exactly blown away by this one. In fact, I found it fairly tedious at times. The first episode (with Joseph Cotten) was by far the best one, and the last one (with Katharine Ross and James Mason) wasn't too shabby, either. The three in the middle were really boring, though - the one with Tony Musante almost put me to sleep.

Some episodes were better than others granted but overall I did enjoy them all myself. :D
