Nero says...

“The film will be called ‘The Angel, The Bad And The Wise’ and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot,” Nero said (via Movieplayer). “We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino , Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”

I can also confirm that this project is not the spaghetti western Franco Nero spoke about at the Los Angeles Italia festival. So scratch out Nero, Keith Carradine and Treat Williams; that's an entirely different project.

I saw something on Empire about this yesterday - the writer of the piece seemed to jump to the conclusion that QT was directing because Nero referred to him as a "filmmaker" on the project, but he mentioned Carradine the same, so I figured he meant that they were all "participants" and until stated otherwise, this was most likely an acting gig for QT. This would make sense, as there's been news of a western project that FN and Enzo Castellari are trying to get off the ground going back to around 2004/2005. QT has been rumoured to be attached in an acting capacity on that, along with others such as Liam Neeson and Ethan Hawke.

Still, any news centring on something Tarantino is involved in should be taken with a pinch of salt until the cameras start rolling.  :-\

Me too. I'd be happy to see QT do a western that pays homage to the Italian masters but I'd also like to see the long-mooted Castellari/Nero reunion.

I read somewhere where he said that his next movie is going to be a "Southern": a Western set in pre-Civil War U.S. with a black slave revolting against white plantation owners or something to that effect. I also remember seeing a Franco Nero interview on some DVD extra where he explains that he is going to be involved in a movie where he kills Eli Roth, Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, who have a cameo as a trio of villains. Nero seemed nonplussed by the idea, sighing unenthusiastically and saying, "Yeah, it's a game you play [as an actor with a cult following]..."
