The Beast In The Cellar (James Kelly, 1970)
« on: 06 Aug 2011 - 13:42 »

Soldiers are being murdered and mutilated by an unknown beast but the film centres around two doddering old ladies who have been keeping someone/something bricked up in their cellar. Quite pedestrian at times and very much a talkie with only three murders in all but kept together well by a classic British pair of Flora Robson (who also helped to keep someone locked up in The Shuttered Room) and, in particular Beryl Reid. If you can keep going until the last half hour it becomes quite engrossing as we get to the root of the tale.

Being reissued by Odeon in September.
