There are a lot of shit talkers doing the rounds. Some of the most contentious transfers have looked fine to me.

That's why when I finally go hd after Christmas I'll buy discs I'm interested in and watch them for myself before making judgement. Just like I did/do with DVDs, I never held off buying a DVD while waiting for an online review.

Quatermass looked amazing to me. I didn't even have much of a problem with DPOD. It still looked mikes better than any other version I've seen.

It just irks me a bit when surely someone who's being paid to do a transfer doesn't have the foresight to run a comparison or take some hints from one that's already been done as in CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. It's not that much effort surely and it just looks like it was given to someone who doesn't really know what they're doing.

It is truly baffling about the massive fubars as regards QC control goes, there's some real puzzlers lately - the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 90 blu springs to mind. It doesn't help that it was a limited edition that sold out on pre order so no one could actually get their copy before realising it had 'issues'. Saying that I would have taken a punt on it if I was interested in the film.

I seem to be quite fortunate in that I don't see 99% of the picture "problems" that people complain about. I was strongly advised not to buy the Tremors blu, but I love it, looks perfect to me.
As for The Devil Rides Out, as most people have said, I can't believe that they didn't think to include the original version, it just seems a bonkers decision. Don't they know that George Lucas went from hero to public enemy number 1?  :-\

Sound Format: German DTS HD-Ma 2.0 Mono / ENGLISH DTS HD-Ma 2.0 mono
Subtitles: German (hidden)
Length: 96 min. (24 FPS)

Double Disc Edition (2 Blu-Rays) with original cinema frame on disc 1 and restored version on disc 2.

Bonus: Audio Commentary with Christopher Lee, Sarah Lawson and Marcus Hearn / audio commentary with Dr. Rolf Giesen and uwe sommerlad / restored film version / Black Magic: the making of ' the devil rides out ' / ' Dennis Wheatley at hammer / the power of light: Restoring ' the devil rides out ' / American cinema trailer / British cinema trailer / Super-8 Version / us title sequence / French advertising advice / Picture Gallery

The quality of the prints are outstanding. A really nice bonus is the Super-8 mm version in English. Highly recommended as are all the Anolis Hammer Editions.

Thanks for your impressions, Mark GW.  ;)

I was unaware this release was now available in a regular keepcase.

I'll add it to my basket, the next time I order from Amazon.de.  :P

You're more than welcome.  ;D

QuatermassII has just come out (literally dropped on my doormat this morning). It too, looks fantastic. Bundled with really nice extras including an English Super 8 version, english comic reproduction as a slide show, original Val Guest commentary, and the 2 German experts (who really know their stuff) give additional commentaries in both English and German!

The great thing about these Anolis releases is if there has been a problem with the video or audio of the film in a previous release (not unknown with these Hammer Blu-rays), they take the time and effort to sort them out. Apparently, there were contrast issues with QuatermassII which have now been rectified.
