Hi all,

For those who haven't met me my name is James and I am involved with a community cinema in Manchester, UK. I programme films, help with press and general volunteering. We are trying to make the cinema space available to anyone who want's to use it and this got me thinking. I would love to have an exclusive Eurocrime festival celebrating everything we love about this classic and unique period of film.

This would be the first time I have ever attempted something like this so I would like to use this thread as an open invitation for feedback and ideas.

- Would you be willing to travel to Manchester for it?
- What films would you like to see on the big screen?
- Could you help with promotion, flyer design etc?
- Would you prefer two short days or one long one (midday to midnight for example)

Any feedback would be most welcome. I am hoping to make the festival free, but due to people having to work the bar etc there may have to be a ticket price, of which would be no more than £10 or so.

I look forward to your ideas and suggestions

James

Would these be prints or projected discs?

For now projected discs which I know may put some people off. There is a 16mm projector but it needs some serious tlc, added to the fact I wouldn't know where to begin getting prints .

But this is early days and this can be sorted. If people are willing to donate prints and I can get hold of a projectionist (I know one) to work it then all is good.

The space is mine for when I want it, the battle is making the festival attractive. That's where the sages come in :)

I'll help where I can.

I'd prefer one long day over two short ones (saves travelling twice etc)

It will double the attraction of the event if you can get that 16mm working properly!

Do you know of people with prints if I was to get hold of a projectionist for the day? I like the idea of going down this route. Also one day would be much better imo

I've got the two Girolami Merli films. Couldn't tell you if they work fine or not though.

Good luck, James.

Couple of things, if I can help in anyway (from down here in Devon, that is), let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Really not sure if I could attend. It would totally dependent on when it is and what my cashflow is like at the time.

James, it might be worth contacting the guys at the Festival of Fantastic Films In Manchester. There's loads of very experienced 16mm guys there.

Thanks for the kind words so far guys, I know I am taking a hell of a task on here but I have a space to use and ideas to fill it. Tazi, is there anyway of finding out? Any other collectors I could contact?

Shame as a 16mm copy of colt 38 special squad was on ebay last week, didn't have the cash for it

If you get any joy with the Fantastic Films guys they will be able to check any 16mm prints before the screening as they have home set ups.

Sadly not.

A friend of mine who's a film editor was going to get them put onto disc but his friend who was going to get it done is no longer at the authoring house or whatever it was. Pity.

I think trying to get prints for a first time round may prove to be troublesome. If this turns out to be a small success (a handful of people coming would be that) then it's something I can work on for the future. I am waiting on an email reply that may give the green light to something special, fingers crossed.

Quick update. Looking like it will be a half day event showing 3 films, 2 of which are Rome Armed To The Teeth and The Italian Connection. The third will hopefully be announced in the new year.
