the CULT FILMS OF CHRISTOPHER LEE sounds interesting! I want to get this book called CHRIS LEE & PETER CUSHING: THEIR 22 COLLABORATIONS or something like that. It's from McFarland Press. They're only about 2 hours away from me.

I'm desperately looking for a book called GODS IN POLYESTER: A SURVIVOR'S ACCOUNT OF 70s CINEMA OBSCURA. I posted about it in the trading section. I did find a brit sight that has it I think. I may have to break down and pay the enormous cost of shipping here, I'm afraid.  ???

the CULT FILMS OF CHRISTOPHER LEE sounds interesting!

Its nowhere near as comprehensive as Rigbys book as obviously Sothcott only covers a selection of 20-30 films which he considers cult movies. However of the ones he has included these are all very entertainly written about in detail but where this book really excels is the huge number of brilliant photo stills, much  much more than Rigby.

I think so,its on UK Amazon where there are totally mixed views but as i said the pictures are the main attraction for me as i also have Rigbys book.It might as one reviewer says resemble a "scrapbook" but it looks great to me.I'm not sure of the "inaccuracies" (i own most of the films featured)that are referred to,but Thomas Weisser he definately is not!!

Hey, dracucarr, did you get yourself a copy of CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES? It's a massive hardback tome on the entire series told through the words of everyone involved from the actors to the behind the camera crews that worked on all the movies. Have only read a bit of it, but man, it's loaded with info. How is that Cushing and Lee book, the one about their 22 films together?

Hey, Il Commissario, I did get Crystal Lake Memories, and it is listed, but I seem to have missed the first part of the title out (it's listed here as: Bracke, Peter M. (2005) The Complete History of Friday the 13th London: Titan Books). Doh!  ??? As for Cushing and Lee, well, Mark A Miller really has done his research. Like FAB Press, I will hunt out most titles associated with McFarland as they really do put out some great stuff (like Count Dracula Goes To The Movies, Universal, Rise and Fall, Peter Cushing & His 91 Films etc). I love the way the CL & PC book starts each chapter with a quote - many I have never heard before - with words from the likes of Peter Cushing who says (referring to Chris Lee in Curse of Frankenstein) 'Beneath outward aloofness and dignity lies a very human being: sensitive, warm, and oft times suffering from nerves which he goes to great lengths to conceal'.

The book is like a smaller, chunkier 'This is Your Life' replica, but full of very accurate and interesting information, which not only analyzes Lee & Cushing's performances, but also goes into the background of the films' and often their literary sources. Lots of interviews with stars and technicians from each of the 21 films, aswell as what was going on in the actors' lives at that time, and how they got the roles. Each film is covered in detail and for those sick of some of their faves being neglected like House of the Long Shadows and The Satanic Rites of Dracula then this is a big welcome. At the end there is an assessment of health scares they both had, and of course, Peter Cushing's death. I can't recommend this highly enough.

One thing I've learned from this thread is that you guys love a list! Good work guys, if I had the time, I'd list mine, but as I've not got my books (or my DVDs, for that matter) databased, I really don't think it's going to happen any time soon!  :-\

My books are set out that way due to Uni as I had a Brit horror essay to do and used a few of them for my bibliography. It inspired me to sort them out one looooooong day, and everytime I get a book I just add it in. My DVD list is set in chronological order (something I started when I had 20 DVD's) and I'm glad I typed them up as I got them because having over 2000 now, I really couldn't be arsed to do it!!!!

Oh no! I haven't made a list for my mags  ???. I must fight the urge to make a list as that will take forever. It's great seeing I'm not the only person book mad, but it'd be great to see a few more , especially if they remind me of stuff I need (e.g. the now OOP Flesh and Blood Compendium  :-[)
