aka Una ragazza piuttosto complicata

Recently grabbed this Gialli by Damiani, to be honest I'd never heard of it until I saw the fansub up on CG the other week.

Anyone seen it? Thoughts?

This is probably my least favourite Damiani film. It's certainly a good looking film but ultimately it's just a little bit dull. Sorel & Spaak (who looks great) simply don't have the presence or ability to carry the film. This is left up to Florinda Bolkan who steals the show IMO. Still watchable but pales in comparison to the two films it was released between (Day of the Owl and A Most Beautiful Wife)

I just finished watching this yesterday.  The only other Damiani film I've seen is Amityville II, so I can't really compare it to his other work.  I'd probably only marginally classify this as a giallo; it's really more of a psychological drama than being much of thriller.  There are some nice visual touches, especially the opening sequence when Jean Sorel inadvertantly connects into a telephone conversation and we're treated to what his mind imagines as he listens in (wherein we see the blue faced men pictured above as well as many other bizarre images).    Sorel and Spaak carry the vast majority of the weight here, and although I found it to be well acted overall Sorel's mostly even-keeled demeanor doesn't really fit the psychologically fixated path his character goes down.  On the other hand I found that Spaak played the 'rather complicated girl that we've all known and become fascinated by even though we know that it's really not a good idea' very well.  Still, I greatly enjoyed the film and found myself entertained throughout.  Recommended if you're prepared for a slightly warped character study rather than thrilling twists and turns.

Doesn't she always do that? To me Florinda is one of those rare actors who always manages to stand out and act the pants off her co-stars - even when the role is small or the film is shit. One of the most talented stars working in Italian cinema.
