Necropolis (Franco Brocani, 1970)
« on: 25 Mar 2013 - 10:55 »

Coming soon (May 22) on English-friendly DVD.

This one is very arty and has a heavy gothic horror vibe running throughout but manages to remain fairly interesting with the dialogue in both English and Italian, cast includes Tina Aumont and Pierre Clementi.Looking at the IMDB i see the director was also one of the writers on IL SESSO DELLA STREGA which doesn't surprise me at all. :-\

Time Out Film Guide:
Quote
"Brocani conjures together all your favorite European cultural and historical myth figures in order to attack the centuries of 'sublimation' that have produced our cities and their inhabitants. The gang's all here: Frankenstein's monster gropes towards the awareness that his mind is a universe; Attila, naked on a white horse, liberates his people from their ignominy; the ultra-caustic Viva bemoans the frustrations of married life and drifts into the elegiac persona of the Bloody Countess Bathory; Louis Waldon is a hip American tourist searching for the (missing) Mona Lisa. The range is extraordinary, from stand-up Jewish comedy to a kind of flea-market expressionism."

Sounds like an intriguing film and Pierre Clementi and Tina Aumont are an irresistible combo... will have to pick up the RHV release.

Yes, they have experienced some trouble with Italian censorship, but now the film has obtained a new visa and the uncut DVD will be available in September.

I've never seen this, do you know what scene(s) was/were problematic?

I think they primarily had problems with a giant penis. Not sure I am allowed to post a screenshot without being banned  ;D

Due to copyright issue, before the DVD could be released the film had to be aired on TV and, yes, still in 2013 Italian TV has problems showing giant penis  ;D
