Rush (Tonino Ricci, 1983)
« on: 19 Nov 2012 - 08:43 »

Some more post-apocalyptic action on the way:

CMV will release Ricci's RUSH in anamorphic 1.85 AR on 21 December. German and English audio will be included but as expected no extras, apparently not even a trailer for the main attraction. I love my nuclear gravel pit actioners a lot but this one has eluded me forever. Since Ricci's action oeuvre hasn't done much for me so far, can someone tell me how high I should set my expectations with this one?  :-X

Looks like everyone's favourite punching bag Riccardo Pizzuti got his thrashing even after he had left the Spencer & Hill movies behind him:

I would set your expectations to be very, very low on this title. I personally found it very dull and ugly with no redeeming values whatsoever. The follow-up, Rush, is a tad more engaging, but do not expect much in the way of thrills. Same goes for Ricci's Thor and... well, most of Ricci's canon.

Thanks for the warning. I think I'll hold off buying this title a bit longer then. So many other recent releases I need to catch up with, anyway.  ::)

My disc arrived this morning and if you are a fan of the movie, this is the release for you. Comes with slide show, commentary and missing scene taken from the Japanese VHS, although it does appear similar to the old UK VHS.

I am not sure. CMV Laservision sent me a disc as I sent some artwork for them and we go back some years (I acquired Last House on Dead End Street for them). If you like, am happy to introduce you to find out where to obtain a DVD.

I was never a big fan of RUSH. To me it's one of the worst Italian post-apocalyse efforts. However, I love the semi-sequel RAGE, which I find to be terrifically entertaining. It plays out very much like a western in a post-apocalyptic setting, and is well worth checking out. I'm tempted to get that German DVD but does anyone know anything about the quality? Any online reviews with screenshots anywhere?

Hi Johan, most reviews I've read say it's an adequate release. You can get an impression of the image quality in this post.
As Ben Cobb already pointed out, RUSH II will also be released by cmv. It'll be paired on a double feature disc with SURVIVAL ZONE (Percival Rubens, 1983):

So far I got the impression that cmv only does double features when the source material is not up to par for standalone releases. Let's hope that RUSH II will nevertheless look reasonably well!

Quick warning, Rush II isn't English friendly although the bonus film is.

The first pressing of RUSH II also had some reels switched, wrecking the order of events in the film. CMV later replaced the disc with a corrected one, but there still could be some copies out there in the market place.
