Watched this one tonight, via the Dark Sky disc.  Quite an amazing, nasty, and disturbing flick.  This one is the quintessential "slow-burn" which moves to an exciting and satisfying ending.  Just about everyting about this film was spot on.  This one must have lingered for a long while as a hidden gem.  The disc looked great, btw.  Late.

I love this movie, I was really expecting a trashy exploitation movie but alot went into this, as others have said, spooky and builds up very slowly but hits you like a freight train.

I have an old bootleg version of this film. Is the Dark Sky uncut showing all the sick war footage etc at the beginning?

30 Euros for the 8 disc set.  Spanish subs only (the Spanish set of the new series had English subs - I'm guessing LionsGate's release was a direct port - with new menus and that trailer for the sucky BENEATH STILL WATERS - given the occasional typos).

Finally got round to watching the Dark Sky DVD last night.

Lovely print though the sound on the English track bothered me a bit during the first 20 minutes or so as the sound effects seemed much louder than the dialogue, settled down after all the fireworks were over though. As much as I appreciate the message that's being put across with the war footage at the start I ended up fast forwarding it after it dragged on for over 5 minutes at a tedious pace and didn't look like it was going to end. I think it runs for about ten minutes or so doesn't it?

Film was great, noticed a few things I hadn't picked up on before - the music sounded a lot like John Williams' JAWS and like Brian mentioned earlier in this thread there's defo some Hitchcock stuff going on, reminded me a lot of THE BIRDS. Substitute the children for birds and you'll get what I mean.

Didn't get chance to watch any of the extra features, might do that on my next night off.

Not quite, but it seems like it. I had to skip over that bit when I watched it with Sian a couple of months back.

I picked up the soundtrack to this the other day; it's a double disc with The House That Screamed too.
great films but the music isn't something I'll be listening to very often, to be honest.

Always loved this film, although I do spend a lot of the running time shouting "kill 'em, kill 'em".
Is that wrong?  :-\

Having read about the film for a number of years I picked up the Dark Sky DVD a few years back and thought it was terrific. I can understand why people find the opening montage a little overlong, but it serves a purpose in that there's a payoff in the way the movie unfolds. It's a shocking montage, no doubt about it, but as I said, it serves a purpose.

Anyway, I love the film and think it's one of the better efforts to emerge from Spain during this period. Could I kill a child? I could kill some of the chav vermin that live near me, for sure - but they're feral, they're not even strictly human.
