Masters project on italian soundtracks
« on: 14 Jul 2016 - 20:27 »

Hello everybody!

I know the forums for a while but this is my first post.

My college graduation thesis was about the italian genre cinema, more specifically about the Profondo Rosso soundtrack. Now I'm considering what may become my masters project here in Brazil (something like Masters of Arts degree I guess).

I have some ideas. The main one is to make a comparative study about the works of Lalo Schffrin and Luis Bacalov, focusing on the soundtracks of Bullit and Milano Calibro 9. They're both from Argentina, working in crime movies and with a similar approach to the use of popular music, like jazz, rock and bossa, in their works. I would like to study the historical reasons and influences in the poliziotteschi soundtracks, with Bullit and Dirty Harry's being one of them.

The problem is that I know that the bibliography that would help these studies is scarse. Maybe only with a interview with Schiffrin and Bacalov that I'd be able to clarify some points. So my main concern is if it is a viable project.

I would also like to study Ennio Morricone (and other composers) but I know that his work is so diverse that it would only be viable in a PhD in the future. I could find a minor scope but I don't know music theory enough to make a really good deconstruction of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack, for exemple. And I prefer an historical approach.

Anyway, I would like to do something that would be a good text to be red by fans of Italian westerns, gialli and poliziotteschi.

Sorry any english mistakes...

Thank you!
