Very curious to see how this turns out.
As mentioned elsewhere, I worked on the subs for a composite print by (il grande!) Pipipip over at CG which runs for just under 2 hours (1h 55m, to be more precise)
There are lots of very different prints of this film. The original UK dub (on the Greek VHS) contains more violence and two reasonably long dialogue scenes (notably an early scene where Franco arrives at the hotel and calls Yvonne from the hotel lobby - and a later scene where an undercover cop is tailing Yvonne) The German version has a long scene with Gian Maria Volonte discussing the case with the French inspector, Julien, amongst other things - including extensions to scenes that play out slightly longer. But there's a lot more than that...
It seems like every territory had its own unique cut of the film.
Does anyone have any idea of the possible running time for Arrow's release?
Still, any release is a blessing - I'm just not sure what to expect given all the variant prints. It's a strange beast because I wouldn't want to cut anything from the film and like it how it stands with everything re-instated. Mostly because it's that good...
One slight criticism of the Arrow marketing blurb (not posted here, but over at RockShockPop forums... copied/pasted below)
"During the 1960s Luciano Lutring committed more than one hundred armed robberies in Italy and on the French Riviera. To the media he was the ‘machine gun soloist’, a name he’d earned as he kept his weapon in a violin case. To the public he was a Robin Hood figure, one who only targeted the wealthy, stealing more than 35 billion lire during his criminal career."
Anyone who's watched the film or done the slightest bit of reading up on the real-life Luciano Lutring would know that is complete nonsense. He was a simple smash-and-grab jewellery store thief and nothing like a 'Robin Hood' figure. Unless, of course, Robin Hood beat his women a lot, organised bank robberies, and stole from tiny jewellery stores. He's also credited with over 500 robberies, not 100.
Quibbles aside, let's see how the reviews pan out.
