Ingmar Bergman - DVD giveaway!!
« on: 15 Sep 2007 - 12:11 »

We're pleased to able to bring you our first DVD giveaway, courtesy of those fine folks over at Tartan Video.

This, the first of many such giveaways, sees us being able to offer two of the late Ingmar Bergman's films on DVD recently released by Tartan as part of their 'Ingmar Bergman Collection'

The Devil's Eye

When the Devil decides that a young woman has been a virgin for too long he sends Don Juan up from hell to rob her of her virginity.  Despite his charms the young woman resists the temptation to give in to him, but events become further complicated when Don Juan falls for her, experiencing love for the first time.

Previously unavailable on DVD, The Devil's Eye is one of Bergman's most abstract films and represents his first attempt to grapple with the question of theatricality in film.

Ingmar Bergman may have died on 30th July but he left a legacy of startlingly original and well-respected films to be cherished by fans and scholars alike. Bergman was renowned for giving terrific insight into the human condition, often painting a vivid picture of the misery and depression that life can throw our way.

So, in keeping with this theme, your task is to think up a way in which you would enliven the existence of one of his characters: in other words, what would you do to cheer them up?

The most fun-filled, original and elaborate answer wins the DVDs.

Post your replies here and the admin team will choose the winner next Monday.

Put some MDMA powder into their drinks, that'll liven 'em up a bit ::)

Well it's a bit further away for me than Drayton Manor but since they're well miserable I thought I should make a bit of an effort.

I'm going to choose Ester (Ingrid Thulin) from The Silence (Tystnaden). Given she is on her deathbed and pining for one last incestuous relationship with her sister Anna (Gunnel Lindblom), I'd tie Anna to the bed and give Ester a range of sex toys to choose from. Then after hours of steamy, kinky lesbian sex I'd rustle her up a good meal from the kitchen at the hotel they are staying. To make sure she doesn't lose the affection of her nephew Johan (Jorgen Lidstrom) I'd invite the dwarves staying in one of the other rooms to come and provide entertainment for the evening. Finally I'd buy them all a train ticket so they can carry on with their journey.

That's a rather naff answer but I can't be arsed to put any more effort in  :-\ Besides I'm guessing the lesbian angle will help my cause  ::) If it doesn't I'll post this picture as well....  ::)

Right, the competition is now closed and without further ado I'll announce the winner...

Richard C, come on down!

Richard showed an enthusiasm for the task at hand and coloured his project nicely with some lovely illustrations, the lesbians were an unnecessary but thoughtful touch. A+ Well Done!

I hope to see more work of this standard during the coming term.

Yeah, it was definitely your talk of lesbians and dwarfs that swung the vote, Richard. However, I wouldn't advise you doing a KILLER LESBO MIDGETS blurb for the Grindhouse compo.
