I have a transfer of the German Super8 version titled 'Man-Eater'. Its about 30 mins long and includes the scene where  he chomps down on his own innards right at the end. Never watch the full unedied version so i dont know what gore(if any!) is missing.

There's a transfer of it on the Dragon DVD. Haven't watched it, but I've got it.

It's so weird seeing a pre-fame Serena Grandi playing a pregnant chick. She looks really plain and dull compared to her later sexbomb roles!  :-\

She reminds me of a young Princess Diana when she was pregnant with her first child. :-\

I know this film gets mixed reviews but I always loved it. I have 2 double-sic sets of it as well as the uncut Greek VHS. Now I hope somebody would release a special edition of ABSURD!

Yeah, ABSURD is long overdue for a proper, English-friendly DVD release. Almost all of the other Italian horror films from the "gory glory period" of the early 80s have been released by now!

I love it, too.  I've got the double-disc set from Shriek Show.  I've got the old VHS of "Monster Hunter" in the oversized box.  I got it years ago along w/Stagefright Prism VHS.  Both, I think, for under $10 US.  Late.

Anyone have any of the German SE's from NSM or even the XT Video bootleg? Was very tempted to get one of the NSM releases awhile back what with the English track, extras and 32pg booklet but never bothered as the Italian 2 disc on Beat was so good, are they worth a double-dip?

I only remember having the first German disc of the movie on the Astro (or Marketing Film?) label if I remember well. That looked like shit and I was really happy when I got rid of it and bought the Italian double disc set on Beat records! What a great release! Afterwards I also bought the Shriek Show double disc set because of the extras.

One of the German discs at least does not have the export English dub.  Rather, it is reconstructed using the US R-rated rescored dub so it cuts back and forth between the library music and Marcello Giombini's score for the bits augmented by the Italian track.

Yeah, the old Astro release uses music from the US version. It's interesting as the film plays out quite differently than it does with the Giombini score.

I've always wondered by Eastman's character is called Klaus Weltmann and made out to be German in the English version!! It doesn't make any sense! In the Italian version he's Greek and called Nikos Karamanlis, which is much more fitting!

I've got the 2 disc German steel book which apparently is the same as the Italian release.

One of the hardbox editions also uses the composite English track.

Is it really Karamanlis- I think the name is different in the versions I have watched. If its Karamanlis its really funny cause that was the name of Greece's prime minister around that time.... Imagine a FRIDAY THE 13th film with Jason called Reagan instead of Voorhees  :-*

I think it was Karamanlis, yes! But I haven't seen it in a long time so I can't say for sure.... But that is pretty funny!  ::)
