Apart from seeing The Good, The Bad & The Ugly when I was really young, my first real introduction into Italian exploitation was through some of the horror flicks I saw as a teenager. There was something very taboo about the films - many were banned in the UK at the time, others heavily cut. The first film to really strike a chord with he was Suspiria - it was a complete assault on the senses - the use of colour, music and violence really made it stand out from most of the other horror films that I had seen.
I credit Suspiria as being a key film in developing my love and knowledge of cinema - it's brilliant - had I not watched it back then, I probably would never have began to seek out other similar films, nor would I had discover gialli or crime flicks.
