Just received the French DVD release of this classic film and straight away wanted to check the quality against the bootleg version from Shoarma.

Here's a couple of grabs for you, which one do you think is the bootleg (taken from a Spanish DVD release) and which is the French DVD? I've not cropped the grabs at all, what you see is the full image taken directly from the disc...

I'm guessing the top still, which I think looks better, is from the Shoarma bootleg. Do I get a prize if I'm right?

No you don't get a prize. You are right though. The French release surprised me at how poorly it fared against the Shoarma version. Not only does the French discs image look softer and more 'dupey' the colours are washed out and it seems to be slightly cropped...

The French disc does, however, have a grogeous cover!

It had to be a trick question because for a Shoarma release House That Screamed is pretty good for picture quality. No prize! Boohoo!

So really the Spanish disc which Luminus nicked for the Shoarma bootleg is the best looking version.

Yep, Spanish disc all the way as far as the image quality is concerned. No English options though...

It's 5.95 euros to buy from DVD GO

I'm surprised the image isn't great on the French disc as Rene Chateau are quite a respected and established name over here,i remember seeing their releases like Franco's FACELESS and BLOOD FOR DRACULA retailing for €20 when i first came here a few years back. Now there are loads of them in the budget section going for €6 each, great designs and covers though as Jonny said.

Cecchi Gori released an Italian DVD of the film http://film-dvd.dvd.it/dvd-horror/gli-orrori-del-liceo-femminile/dettaglio/id-611738/ but DVD.it has no information on the language/subtitles or if its 16:9.

Tharuma.com lists it as anamorphic 2.35:1 with Spanish and Italian dubs. Italian subs.

Anyone pick up the Italian disc yet?

There's an Elvira DVD of it out but I believe its sourced from the Shoarma version since I've read it has the LA RESIDENCIA title card.

How about new threads which list each and every DVD release from each Euro Cult label?

NoShame Italy
NoShame USA
Alan Young
Raro
X-Rated

etc.... each label has its own thread. Just a though and helpful for collectors worldwide.

Good idea! Might be worth creating a new sub forum just for that very purpose. I'll get it done today.

Just watched this one for the first time. Good atmospheric stuff, with a nice building location. This falls somewhere inbetween The Innocents and Suspiria, with an undertone of some WIP films.

I just sat down and assessed the various versions around of this one...it's got quite a few !
The English export print titled THE FINISHING SCHOOL is completely uncut and represents the director's intentions.
It seems any other version is compromised.
The Spanish print stems from the same cut, but has over a dozen cuts for censorship purposes ( all lesbain overtones ).
The 2007 french DVD is missing quite a few minutes, but does contain material censored from the Spanish release.
There has been some confusion about the Shoarma bootleg, it is sourced from the Spanish release, but runs shorter ( not sure just why yet ).  The fancomp used takes the widescreen Spanish print and inserts all the tiny cuts from the full screen source ( which is invaluable in assessing the censorship cuts, many of which are almost imperceptable ).
Here are the timings I came up with, sans any distributor logos.
French             PAL 94:50  NTSC  98:53
Shoarma boot   PAL 98:26   NTSC 102:38
Spanish DVD     PAL  99:08  NTSC 103:23
Fancomp          PAL100:36  NTSC 104:55

A poster at Latarnia chimed in with the run time of a DVR of the Ausie tape at 1:44:35.  See that thread for additional info.
I don't have the Italian DVD but somethign must be up with that one too based on listed run times ( it's missing something ).
Anyone have any other releases?  I used to have the AIP cut and the 90's Orion television print but foolishly discarded them.
